Three-dimensional Numerical Simulation of Flow Field in a Separator for Sampling the Suspended Sediment
Abstract:In order to efficiently sample the suspended sediment with a low concentration
a three-dimensional simulation design was presented for a new suspended sediment sampler characteristic of a hydrocyclone.Using a Lagrangian approach with fluid multi-phase model
the pressure distribution
fluent flow
and particle trajectory in the inner sampler were three-dimensionally simulated.A laboratory experiment showed that its sediment separation efficiency is up to 85% for the sediment particles with individual grain size of 63 μm
which achieved the rapid in-situ collection of suspended sediment
and the predictions using the three-dimensional simulation are in good agreements with experimental results.
