Abstract:Numerical simulation and experimental tests were conducted to study a new type of stilling basin–deflecting stilling basin (DSB). The simulation by using a 3D RNG k-ε turbulence model showed a good agreement with the test data in flow pattern
free surface elevation
velocity and pressure distributions. Results of calculation and experiment revealed the difference of DSB from a conventional stilling basin (CSB). With the turbulence increased and the velocity on the slab reduced
the hydraulic performances and energy dissipation efficiency of DSB were significantly improved over the conventional design.
